How to Achieve Your Goals in 2023

Assess the Viability of Your Big Picture Goals

In order to achieve your goals, you need to make sure they’re realistic to begin with. Viable goals are specific, trackable and attainable. Therefore, you should have quantifiable metrics in mind and be realistic in your targets. Consider the previous year’s performance and identify specific areas for improvement—get specific with dollar amounts, lead times or growth percentages that you can count on to track your progress. If your organization tends to set stretch goals, then consider how team membes know whether they’ve “won” in the end.  

Break Large Goals Into Smaller Benchmarks (with Solid Deadlines)

If your ultimate goal is to grow your customer base by 25,000 customers, it can be challenging to see that growth in action without smaller goals and deadlines along the way. Therefore, you might break out your big picture goal with a quarterly breakdown and then get even more specific with month-by-month tasks. Having smaller micro goals will not only keep you on track and help you callibrate sooner if needed, but it also will allow moments to celebrate small-scale victories along the journey, so your team stays motivated and excited about reaching the finish line. 

Don’t Lose Sight of Your WHY 

With any business goals, it’s essential to know why you are seeking growth in the first place. Of course, you want to make money, but sustainable goals go deeper than that. Maybe you want to become an industry leader in your region or maybe you have a vision for giving back through charitable donations or community activities that are only possible if your company grows and succeeds. Keep sight of your WHY throughout the year and share that vision with your team, as well. Instilling a personal connection to your goals will keep everyone on track towards achieving them.
